WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE

Two Paths Become One...

I used to think the only way to help the people I loved was to work hard for them. I worked hard at industry jobs to support my family,  I worked hard on my education so I could teach the youth, and then I worked hard on the front lines, for youth at risk and street addicted people. I really thought I was helping, but I burned out really fast and in a dangerous way… my health left me. Suddenly my children & I were the vulnerable ones, once again, and I had to wonder how hurting myself was ever going to help my communities.

I recovered my health with Art & Yoga. Seriously.
We carry our thoughts inside our bodies. When I started my own healing journey I had to recognize I was addicted to work and self-sacrifice and thats what ultimately tore me apart. It was hard to slow down, turn inside, and relax in my own skin. Things came up I didnt want to think about or deal with. I needed an outlet, and thankfully, I met my NETWORK of female Art-Healers around this time. We made Art about all those internal conversations, we worked our life stories onto the canvas until they became images we could live with and move beyond. I made a lot of beautiful Art and I healed myself … but what about my communities? Have I abandoned my passion for service & environmental protection?

The THIRD possibility: ART OF THE SACRED WITNESS

The Third Path suggests we use our witnessing to benefit our communities; To engage as Artists; To show what we see, to show what we pray for, and to record it for our future generations.

GETTING LOCAL.
With weekly prompts we will work our art and our words to draw out our relationship with our current place on the planet.

to craft an experience

I live in Nanaimo and the thought of Painting Our Lady of Nanaimo is really exciting to me! I seriously cant wait to see how she shows up on the canvas, bringing with her all that Nanaimo is for me at this time of my life, at this point in His[HER]story…

OUR LADY OF SNUNEYMUXW & OUR LADY OF NANAIMO right beside her?! AMAZING POSSIBILITIES!

Testimonials

You Will Need:
  • A canvas, at least 30 x 40
  • Paints, at least 8 colors PLUS black, white, and burnt Umber… I like to use a range of brands from Basics, Amsterdam, Liquitex and Golden but if youre purchasing your paints for the first time you will work out which brands you can afford.
  • Paint brushes… again, you'll be happier if you have a range to choose from. I use all kinds! 'Scrubby" brushes, short and square, rounds, soft and smooth, tiny and pointy.
  • A sketchbook and pens and pencils to play in it. You might like to get some watercolor pains for this part, and some felt pens too, but they arent absolutely necessary.
